Bruce hadn't expected to find anything in the post office box when he checked it. It was a force of habit really to just stop by at least once a month and see if Tony or any of the other Avengers had sent him anything. He'd be lying to himself if he didn't sometimes hope to hear from Natasha. The fall of SHIELD had terrified him, not just for his sake but for hers as well. He'd thought of trying to find her, but he wasn't sure how welcome he would be given he hadn't spoken to her since their intimate night just post the Battle of New York. It was his fondest memory and one that had seen him through many lonely nights as he ran from country to country trying to find a safe place.
So when he opened the box and found the envelope inside he assumed it was Tony checking up on him or passing on something from one of the others. He opened it and pulled out photos....ultrasound photos. He stared for a long time, not sure he was seeing what he thought he was. His eyes filled with tears when he pulled out a sheet of paper in Natasha's even writing that confessed the truth and included coordinates. "I love you, I miss you," was written on the bottom.
There was no question what his next move would be. He packed what little he'd managed to accumulate in his bag and plugged the coordinates into his Stark phone. He found the house easily and stood on the porch suddenly nervous. Did she really want him here, what if she'd changed her mind He tapped a soft few notes on the door and waits heart in his throat. What if he's missed the chance to walk this journey with her and the baby was already born. This might be his only chance to walk the path of fatherhood and he didn't want to miss a second of it.

"I love the new look. How long can you stay?"

Date: 2015-10-31 07:15 pm (UTC)Bruce feels a slice of terror crawl up his spine and he has to have a firm talk with the Other Guy for a second before there is trouble. She's fine, their baby is fine. It's still frightening that she could have suffered alone and he never would have known... He takes another deep breath. "I'm here for good Natasha," he says looking her in the eye, "I never thought...I thought it was physically impossible for me to."
He swallows hard. He'd stayed away from Betty for good because he'd assumed he could never make her as happy as he thought she might have wanted. "This baby is a miracle and I was so afraid I'd miss everything that I rushed to get here." He quirks an eyebrow at her. "And who is Mama?"

"Anyone who makes banana cream pie can't be all bad," Bruce admits, "and for the record I'm scared too. My home life wasn't fantastic and I'm terrified I'm going to make the same mistakes."

"I'm starved."
Rachel looked appraisingly at Bruce, before smiling slightly, serving up two generous pieces of pie and two glasses of milk.
"Are there any dietary issues I need to worry about for you two?" She asked, waving her hand as Natasha choked on her milk.

Maybe too good," he admits, "I eat more than most people as Natasha can tell you." He likes his woman, he's always enjoyed people who say what they think and don't beat around the bush. "I'm also by no means a picky eater either. I've spent too much time working among the poor to be."
He takes a good bite of pie. "And this pie is also too good to go to waste."
